Disaster Relief for Haiti
Siemens, in cooperation with other non-profit organizations, is working to help aid the relief efforts currently underway in Haiti following the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck near the town of Port-au-Prince on Tuesday January 12th.
Through in-kind donations of Siemens products and services, as well as individual employee donations, Siemens urges everyone to help make a difference in any way possible.
In total, Siemens employees have helped raise more than $530,000, which Siemens AG will match.

- 1,300 DOT-IT flashlights (with batteries)
Facts about the Disaster
- The American Red Cross estimates that the Haiti earthquake may have affected about three million people in total.
- The current death toll is estimated to be at least 200,000.
- The magnitude 7 earthquake that struck Haiti is the strongest earthquake to hit the region in more than two centuries. The earthquake's power matched that of several nuclear bombs.
- The initial earthquake, which struck at about 5 p.m local time on Tuesday January 12th, spawned dozens of aftershocks, about 15 of which were magnitude 5 or greater.
The epicenter of the earthquake was about 10 miles (16 kilometers) southwest of Haiti's capital city, Port-au-Prince. This put impoverished Port-au-Prince close to the most intense shaking, contributing to the scale of the devastation: Thousands are feared dead and countless buildings have collapsed, from schools and hotels to the Haitian Parliament and local UN headquarters.
