Kurt D. Bettenhausen has been appointed the new head of Corporate Technology in Princeton, New Jersey, as well as the head of the IAT Cluster. He will start in his new position on October 1. Bettenhausen is currently a manager in the Industrial Automation Division, where he is in charge of the Engineering and Consulting Business sub segment at Process Automation in the Industrial Automation Business Unit in Frankfurt. "I am delighted to have recruited a proven automation expert for the Information & Automation Technologies Cluster," said Reinhold Achatz, head of Corporate Technology Research and Technologies. "Research is a crucial aspect of the work conducted by Siemens USA; it helps make us more competitive in all of our areas of business," said Eric Spiegel, President and CEO of Siemens USA. "Corporate Technology makes valuable contributions to this goal. It is important that an experienced manager from the operating business will now take on this responsibility."
Bettenhausen attained a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Darmstadt. He began his career in the research and technology department of Hoechst. Later, he held senior positions in marketing, sales and product management at Axiva. After Axiva was acquired by Siemens in 2003, he worked on strategic planning of process automation and industrial software at Automation & Drives and eventually headed a research department focused on those areas. Since 2007, Bettenhausen has headed up the Engineering and Consulting Business sub segment of I IA. Bettenhausen is Chairman of the Association of German Engineers’ measurement and automation technology organization. "At CT in Princeton, I will be able to put both my operational experience and my research and development background to good use. I look forward to this exciting task," Bettenhausen said.
