Innovating marketing and technology alliances.
The Siemens-Disney Alliance brings together the world’s leading family entertainment company and a premier global technology and infrastructure company in a 12-year strategic technology and marketing alliance that was announced in November 2005. While Walt Disney Parks and Resorts used a range of Siemens products and technologies before the alliance agreement, the sponsorship program expanded the relationship and paved the way for the two companies to broaden their technical collaborations across several platforms--including theme parks, resorts, cruise ships and other lines of business. As part of the alliance, Siemens sponsors attractions at Walt Disney World Resort (FL), Spaceship Earth and the adjoining Project Tomorrow post show. Other assets sponsored by Siemens include IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth (Epcot), Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (FL), a technology showcase at Innoventions (CA), Disney’s Electrical Parade (CA) and It’s a Small World (CA). The alliance sponsorship also extends to New York City with the Siemens sponsorship of the ABC Studio digital sign, located in the heart of Times Square.
On April 27, 2010, President Barack Obama visited the Siemens wind blade manufacturing plant in Fort Madison, Iowa, as part of his "Main Street Tour" through the Midwest. This was the first time a sitting U.S. President has ever visited a Siemens facility in the company's 163-year history. At the Siemens plant in Fort Madison, some 600 employees are busy helping meet America’s demand for renewable wind power--while helping meet the President’s agenda for creating green jobs in this country. In his remarks, Obama told the audience on the factory floor: "You're manufacturing blades for some of the most advanced wind turbines in the world. Each one as tall as Air Force One is long; each is capable of generating enough power for hundreds of homes, just by harnessing the wind. So what’s going on here, what each of the employees of Siemens is involved with, is helping stake America’s claim on a clean-energy future."
He added that Fort Madison’s success was all the more remarkable "when you consider that just a few short years ago, this facility sat dark and quiet. Today, it’s alive and humming with more than 600 employees, almost two-thirds of whom found themselves unemployed before landing here. And this plant supports more than 350 other jobs throughout Lee County."
The President closed his remarks saying Siemens was at the forefront of creating a more sustainable future for America: "This is what’s possible in a clean energy economy. And while it may not feel like it every day when you punch in—to all the folks who work here at Siemens—I want you to understand, you’re making it possible; you are blazing a trail. You’re showing America our future. And someday, our children, and our children’s children; will look back at this factory, this moment, and they will be proud of a generation that chose, in a time of crisis, to place its bet on the future and to reopen factories and restart assembly lines, and retrain workers. A generation that chose to once again step forward and meet the challenges of our time. That’s what this represents, that what you represent, and we could not be prouder."
Each of us—the more than 60,000 employees across all 50 states—are proud of the tremendous recognition we received from our nation’s Chief Executive.
