December 3rd, 2010 marked the culmination of a journey. One that began with a few shovelfuls of dirt at the Kansas State Fair in September 2009. At that time, Hutchinson, Kansas, was a small town facing a uncertain future. Its residents were witness to a steady flight of industry from the region.
Today, it's a different story. Hutchinson brims over with optimism. Residents have secured coveted green manufacturing jobs. All factory capabilities are up and running and nacelles built in Hutchinson head to the Lower Snake River Wind Farm in Washington, where they will be cominbed with blades from Fort Madison, Iowa.
Please watch the video and see the people who have made this achievement possible.
In November 2009, Siemens began construction on a nacelle manufacturing plant in Hutchinson, KS. The first 90-ton nacelle is slated for shipping from the factory in December 2010. This manufacturing plant in Hutchinson will represent the first major wind turbine equipment factories in Kansas.
Ever heard of a Nacelle? Wonder what it is and how it works? Kevin Hazel and Claus Ungstrup from Siemens Wind Power explain what exactly a Nacelle is and how it helps generate clean, renewable energy by harnessing the power of wind. You'll also learn how Siemens technology helps connect the blade, tower and nacelle to produce the most efficient energy possible for transfer into our nations power grid.
